Do It Vanilla Style

I was on Facebook, doing Facebooky things (among them most certainly not setting virtual restaurant workers to work yet another night shift.  Nope.  Because that would be totally weird.  I was only playing my scrabble move.)  when I noticed a side advert for the Vanilla Ice DIY show.   Hmm.  I am afraid to google it to see if it is a real show, and I would never click on an advert link… but… the idea of Vanilla Ice doing the running man across my kitchen, bounding up the ladder and diving  into the scary attic space to complete the not-even-half-done insulation project sort of intrigues me.  And makes me giggle a little.  I  could apply to get my attic blinged Vanilla style baby.

Maybe not.

What I did apply for was a grant for us rural folks to fix up the shacks we live in so when the city people come to launch their kayaks into mountain streams,  marvel over giant lumps of coal and peer at deer they aren’t totally offended by the way we live here in the northern reaches of Appalachia.   I was all excited by this when I saw the tiny blurb three months ago  in  the paper; Now accepting applications, first come, first served, Rural Development Grants and low-interest loans, apply at the township building.   I waited anxiously to hear if we qualified.  Last week, I called the township to make sure they got my application (right after we turned on the antique heating system and listened to it groan like a very old, very cranky dragon).  They had, the nice lady informed me.  I would be hearing something in about a year.  OMG.  A YEAR?  Maybe they will award points for tenacity.
